Drunk Driving - Operating while impaired

Drunk driving, now called OWI (operating while under the influence of drugs or alcohol), formerly referred to as DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol) or DWI (driving while intoxicated), is a serious charge in Michigan. Even first time offenders can receive jail time. My clients appreciate the experience I bring to their case and the results I achieve on their behalf. I have over 300 jury trials to my credit and have trial experience defending felony DUI charges (3rd offense OWI). Some clients do not realize the repercussions of a drunk driving conviction, including possible jail time, loss of driving privileges, steep fines, and typically hundreds of dollars in increased insurance premiums.

In Michigan, drunk driving offenses works on a tiered system, which includes the following:

  • First drunk driving (OWI) offense: Penalties can include up to 90 days in jail.
  • Second drunk driving (OWI) offense: Misdemeanor offense with penalties that can include up to one year

in jail, and possibly revocation of your license.

  • Third drunk driving (OWI) offense: Felony offense with penalties that can include substantial jail time.
